At Eco-Challenge, 6th grade students explored green careers and interviewed Botany in Action fellow Taylor Alexander Zallek about his research. We discovered how plants and agricultural processes are connected to human and environmental health and well-being. We're exploring The Wright 3, a mystery about one of Frank Lloyd Wright's designs. Students dove into a little history and research using depth and complexity icons. They looked at different perspectives, trends, big ideas and details to take a more in depth and complex look at the architect. Read more about depth and complexity icons here. Take a look at the finished projects and ask your child about the influences on FLW's architecture from his childhood or what on earth could have possibly been a positive outcome from the Great Chicago Fire? Grades 2 and 3 students are exploring the science fiction genre with George's Secret Key to the Universe, a 2021-22 Elementary Literature Festival selection. Early on in the story two of our main characters travel to a comet with help from their talking supercomputer. We learned about a space mission that traveled to and explored a comet IRL! (If you're interested, watch here!) Unlike Annie and George, our students were tasked with designing a method for space and comet exploration that didn't include the help of a magic computer. Check out some of the cool ideas presented!
Reviewing our classroom rules and procedures looked a little different during elementary gifted support classes this week. We talked about what our rules look, sound and feel like. Students did a great job practicing RESPONSIBLITY, RESPECT, HONESTY and POLITENESS during a STEM activity. Take a peek at students working together, finding success, and having fun while learning about our classroom procedures and friction with this Pringles Ring Challenge. |
