The EventTeams from Canon-Mac, Trinity and Fort Cherry brought their newly constructed SeaPerch ROVs to the Canon-McMillan High School Pool to compete in 4 different challenges. Three included underwater tasks and one challenged students to come up with a purpose and marketing design for the underwater ROV. Points were awarded based on a rubric for each task. There was more on the spot problem solving at this year's exhibition than in years past. Many of the projects had faulty connections and needed thoughtful brainstorming to find a way to work. Students didn't give up and kept trying new things -congratulations to all participants! ConstructionStudents began by measuring and cutting PVC pipe. Drain and attachment holes were then drilled into the frame. We got fancy this year and spray painted our frames. They looked great! Students soldered thruster wires and circuit panels.

One of our extension activities to accompany Ben and Me was an experiment with electricity. Ben plays with static electricity in the story so we decided to give it a try, too! Students had a lot of background information to bring to the table (everyone had rubbed a balloon to their heads and stuck it to the wall). Today we created charges to separate pepper and salt. Ask your child how it worked!
