4th-grade began reading Ungifted by Gordon Korman today. In the story characters participate in a robotics club and build a robot for a competition. We started exploring robotics coding using the ScratchX platform and Hummingbird Robotics kits. Students connected LEDs and Tri-colored LEDs to start and created basic code using events and loops. Next week students will connect and program servos and 360-motors. Our robots aren't going to a competition like in the book, but I can't wait to see what they create!

First stop was The Attic. The pictures and video below show our students exploring a place with lots of surprises...just like anyone's attic! Our second stop was the Rube Goldberg exhibit. We were able to get to make a few "simple" contraptions work! Third stop was the Garage. Playing with conveyor belts, building raceways and cars, and rolling on tire chairs. I hope everyone knew they were surrounded by simple machines! The Studio was big hit with our artists. Screen printing, stamping and painting. I loved seeing them work! Last stop before lunch was the "Limb Bender" and the Workshop. Finally lunchtime!
Workshop on floor plans: Students used iPads to document the enrichment trip. Here are a few pictures they took. (We couldn't take pictures inside the house.) Middle School Quiz Bowl 2018! One of our teams won 2/3 rounds. Great work 6th-grade. You'll be a force to reckoned with in the 7th and 8th-grades! |
